Chile Needs Our Help!!

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

This is the latest E-mail from Tom Orme, Director of Vision for Chile, who was in Chile at the time of the earthquake. Please continue to pray! To give a donation please click on “How do I Give?” in the right column of your screen or the bottom of this message.

Dear Vision for Chile Family,

The past four days have been both amazing and overwhelming! I have seen people on their knees praying, crying out for answers from God for their families in Southern Chile whom they cannot connect with, others who have made contact and have either gotten good news or found out that they have lost loved ones. People are truly scared about the unknown and many of these are our Christian brothers and sisters. Gas lines are long, communities like the one I am staying in still have no electricity. We have no TV to watch to find out what is going on, no internet to try and stay connected. (I am at the Hogar using their internet) Sometimes my cell phone works, other times it doesn’t. Some communities are still without water! Santiago was built to with stand earthquakes, but not an 8.5!

I have received over 150 e-mails asking how can I help? I have been asking the same question. The conditions in Chile, especially down south are unbelievably bad.

I believe the best way the Vision for Chile family can help is to help our “community” The people that we see, talk to, work with, go to church with, play with and touch every time we come to Chile. Here are the needs that I know for our community! These are needs that you can pray for and send money for:

· House of Hope: lost an outside perimeter wall. It will take approximately 3 weeks to rebuild. The repair cost will run approximately $3000. However each day we have to hire extra security to protect the House of Hope itself. Additional cost could run approximately $1250. for a total of $4250. Can you help?

· Hogar: Thank God the girls and staff are OK. The buildings are OK, however many of the things in the houses were damaged, two TV’s, two refrigerators, three washing machines, dishes, glasses, several microwaves etc Approximately $6500. in damages, can you help?

· The Hogar bookkeeper (Denise) lives on the 5th floor of an apartment which was severely damaged, she lost everything! I mean everything. Over $5000. She is temporarily living with an uncle. Can you help her?

· The Fugate’s, our favorite missionaries lost cups, glasses and nick knacks plus “all” of the food in the refrigerator & freezer, approximately $1,150. in damage. Can you help?

· Daniel & Jessica, the new Director of the House of Hope saved for 5 years for a new TV, it was destroyed in the earth quake, approximately $1500 in loss, can you help?

Compared to what’s going on in Southern Chile, this is “nothing” but it is loss to our community and they (we) need your help! Please pray about this, and if you can help please send your money to Vision for Chile via one of our two electronic methods. How Can I give? I promise you the money will get to the right person/place. God bless you!

Please keep praying for the people of Chile!

Earthquake in Chile!

Monday, March 1st, 2010

I received this e-mail from Tom Orme who is currently in Chile. The pictures were sent by Bob Fugate who is a missionary in Chile. Please pray for all of the people of Chile. I will add new updates as they come in. Mark

Hey Guys, it’s me Tom Orme. The last 48 hours is something I will never forget. I never want to be a part of an 8.5 earthquake again. Yes, I am in Chile and yes I was a part of the earthquake.

I am OK, all of the C&MA Missionaries are OK. I am staying with the Fugate’s. The girls at the Hogar are scared to death but are OK. The House of Hope is OK, however we did lose an outside perimeter wall. Willie, Patty and family are OK.

The country of Chile needs your prayers. Over 700 have died. Millions / maybe billions of dollars in damage.

The country is running low on gas, food and water. We have no electricity. Please, please pray!

We will try and keep you updated. Send me your questions. God bless!

Important Announcement!!

Friday, December 12th, 2008

Greetings VFC friends and supporters,

JanuaryTemucoDue to circumstances beyond our control, the ESL/ Soccer camp in Linares, Chile that was scheduled for January unfortunately had to be cancelled. However the Temuco Construction Project will proceed as planned with one minor change. The dates for this trip have been moved to Sunday, January 18th through Sunday, February 1st. There will still be a team that will be building a caretaker’s home for a C&MA School heading down to Temuco during these new dates. Please click on the image to the left to view the updated flyer for this trip.

We trust in God, as always, even while enduring things that we cannot change. We ask all of you to pray for our team as they prepare for the trip and while they are doing God’s work in Chile. Also, as always, it’s never too late to support this faith based ministry financially. We thank you for all the support that you give throughout the entire year.

Linares Six
The Final Day

dsc07188.JPGThey say it never rains in Chile in the summer. Well, today it certainly rained a cold rain in Linares! So, being flexible, we attacked the inside. The tile man asked us not to work on the bathroom ceiling while he was still there so that is not finished. Just as we were finishing all we could do, the sun came out and it started to warm up. After lunch we were able to continue painting the outside. We were able to paint the entire front and the poured columns on the visible side. The bricks had already been sprayed a yellow. We leave tomorrow. Not all the work we wanted to do was completed but that is the way a Vision for Chile trip goes every year. If only we had a few more people we would have been able to do more but there still would have been unfinished tasks. Tasks seem to multiply! We are all tired and weary but had a blast! We can hear the girls outside playing as we wait to go to dinner. At times we can even hear the lion down the street let out a roar! (There is a zoo within walking distance that only costs a 1,000 pesos ($2.00 but who had time to go.) Sunday we could have gone but were too tired. We also could have gone horse back riding.

The time really flies down here. It seems like we just arrived but when we look at how different the building looks we realize we put in eight hard days of work. At noon tomorrow the bus comes to take us back to the Hogar to join the rest of the team. It will be exciting to see all of the work they have done. Then on Thursday, we will take the bus to Vina Del Mar for our much needed rest. Continue to keep us in prayer for safe travels.

dsc07217.JPGWe just returned from a special dinner thanking us for our work. Ruth, Rafael, Patricio (a worker from their church and another school) and Elba (our cook) joined us. We have almost grown as close to them as we have to our team mates. Patricio is a tireless worker who is willing to do any job. Elba (who is a seamstress by trade) spent hours in the kitchen preparing delicious Chilean dishes.
