VFC Extreme Makeover 2006…

Ministry! Ministry! Ministry!

2006 is a different year for Vision For Chile. In response to the input we’ve received from you and the needs of the orphanage, rather than building a new building, we’re emphasizing two things: First, we’re planning on giving the orphanage an extreme makeover. And second, we’re planning on giving you more time in ministry with the children!

If you would like to tell others about Vision for Chile, you can download a Promotional Video for this trip on this page.

Planned projects for the 2006 trip include:
* Restaining dormitories
* Increasing the time workers spend in ministry with the children
* Painting interior walls
* Increasing the time workers spend in ministry with the children
* Tiling floors
* Increasing the time workers spend in ministry with the children
* Laying sidewalks
* Increasing the time workers spend in ministry with the children
* Bulldozing the wall that runs down the center
* Increasing the time workers spend in ministry with the children
* Landscaping with grass and flowers
* Increasing the time workers spend in ministry with the children

Did we mention we are increasing the time you spend in ministry with the children? Tom promises that those going will only work normal workdays and have time each day with the children.

Begin now to pray about whether you should be part of this ministry in 2006. The dates are as follows:
Team 1 – October 7-21 (returning the 22nd)
Team 2 – October 21-November 4 (returning the 5th)

In a short time a complete brochure will be posted here on the web site. The total cost should be in keeping with previous trips. Registration is limited, so please try to have yours in by May 1, 2006. If you’re interested in going you should contact Tom Orme now. His phone number is 615-599-4208. His email address is ormet@cmalliance.org.

In addition to contacting Tom personally, please download and complete the Vision For Chile Application and the Vision For Chile Release Form. Mail them with a $250 non-refundable deposit to the address below by May 1, 2006. (To download these files, right-click them and “Save Target As…” You will need the free Adobe Acrobat Reader to read them. You can download Acrobat from Adobe.)

Trouble Downloading?

Monday, February 6th, 2006

If you have trouble downloading due to disconnects or partial downloads, I suggest trying a Bittorrent-type client.

However sharing files is not for the technologically-faint-of-heart. If you cannot use file-sharing, and you are still having difficulties, I suggest Free Download Manager. It’s free and will help with speed issues and with partial or failed downloads.

Still have trouble? Tell us about it by commenting below.

Can’t Play a Video?

Monday, February 6th, 2006

If you cannot play a video you downloaded from Vision for Chile, please let us know by commenting to this post. I will try to help you troubleshoot it online and then others having similar problems will be able to read this thread and get help when I am unavailable.

One person downloaded the file but his media player would not play it. He said he was receiving an error message that indicated something about compression format not being compatible. I believe that the codec used to compress the file was compatible with Windows Media Player 9. If you have trouble, make sure you do a Windows Update and ensure that you have the most recent version of Windows Media Player.

As it turned out, this person was not getting a complete download of the file. If you’re having trouble downloading, read this post.

Why We Use Bittorrent

Monday, February 6th, 2006

Vision for Chile does not pay for web hosting. This matter is cared for by Steve Shields of shieldsgroup.com. The amount of bandwidth needed for distributing large files may be more than our server allows in a 30 day period. Therefore, we encourage our more advanced computer users to download Bittorrent or a similar client and use it.

Additionally, Bittorrent-type clients are helpful to people who use dial-up as they generally can continue an interrupted download the next time you connect.

Steve uses Azureus because he likes the purple frog and the concept of Open Source Software (remember, Steve is Scottish, so free is an important word to him). Additionally, Azureus is one of the most popular and highly rated clients of this type. You can find Azureus at http://azureus.sourceforge.net/.

After downloading and installing it, along with the latest Java JRE, you can help share the files at visionforchile.org by downloading what you want and keeping your Bittorrent client open. If using a router, you will probably need to set it up to work with file-sharing. A good technical site for setting up your router is http://www.portforward.com/.

If you have questions, please post them here as a comment. We’ll try to help you out.
